South O’Brien comes from behind to beat Westwood boys
South O’Brien entertained Westwood for a Saturday matinee January 11. The Rebels won the first and third quarters and the home team captured quarters two and four. In the end, the Wolverines pulled out a 55-49 victory to improve to 8-2 on the season. Westwood’s record dropped to 7-6.
The Rebels led 16-12 after one period but South O’Brien moved ahead 28-24 at halftime. The visitors’ third-quarter surge put them back in front 41-38 before the home team came back for the win.
The Wolverines got 19 points from Jaden Kreber, 11 from Derek Paulsen, 10 from Caden Wittrock, six from Brady Riedemann, five from Gabe Moermond and four from Reese Lundquist. Paulsen supplied six assists and Riedemann three. The leading scorers for Westwood were Brody Muenchrath with 16 points and Hayden Versch with 15.
South O’Brien shot 31 percent from the field with 16 buckets in 52 tries. The winners were 8-of-33 from beyond the arc and 15-of-19 at the free throw line. They were guilty of 10 turnovers.
The 40 Wolverine rebounds included 13 from Kreber and 11 from Wittrock. Paulsen came away with three steals and blocked a shot.
