At approximately 5:17 pm on Wednesday, April 8 , 2026, the Paullina Fire Department was paged out for a pipeline that had ruptured near Roosevelt Avenue and HWY 10 (460 Street) east of Paullina, IA. Upon arriving at the incident location, first responders noted that a contractor had been working in the field north of HWY 10 and struck a pipeline transporting diesel. Diesel was released into the ground and moved along drainage tile to the ditch along HWY 10. Workers on-scene initiated mitigation measures to contain the spill. ONEOK, pipeline operator or owner, it is unclear, responders arrived quickly to the incident location to assess the damage and assist with their hazmat response resources. Notifications to report the spill were made to the Iowa DNR, EPA, and Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Multiple agencies have responded to this incident to assist including: Paullina Fire, Granville Fire, O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, O’Brien County Secondary Roads, O’Brien County Emergency Management, Iowa DOT, Iowa DNR, ONEOK response resources. Please note: there will be increased traffic in this area over the next several days. Please watch out for turning traffic near HWY 10 and Roosevelt Avenue. Based on information that we have received today, clean-up work in this area is expected to continue through early next week. We greatly appreciate all of the agencies and departments who have assisted with the response to this incident. Oneok declined to provide information about the pipeline size, pressure, quantity of spilled material or the volume of material that flows through the line.
