Wolverine boys pick up win at Harris-Lake Park
South O’Brien took control early on in recording a 67-36 War Eagle Conference victory over Harris-Lake Park January 7 at Lake Park. The Wolverines led 20-13 after one quarter, were up 35-18 at halftime and enjoyed a 53-24 advantage entering the fourth quarter.
Jaden Kreber topped South O’Brien with 23 points. Derek Paulsen scored 12 points and Brody Van Beek 10. Reese Lundquist added seven points, Gabe Moermond four, Caden Wittrock, Alex Griebel and Brady Riedemann three apiece and Brett Evans two. The Wolverines’ 20 assists included five from Lundquist, four from Paulsen and three from Wittrock.
The Wolves were limited to 14 field goals in 45 tries to shoot 31 percent. South O’Brien was at 39 percent, going 27-for-69 from the floor. The Wolverines made six of their 25 three-point attempts and seven of 11 free throws. Harris-Lake Park went 4-for-14 from long range and 4-for-13 from the foul line.
Wittrock grabbed 13 of the team’s 47 rebounds. Kreber and Van Beek each corralled seven caroms with Paulsen collecting six and Evans five. Paulsen made three steals while Wittrock, Kreber and Riedemann each stole the ball twice. Van Beek blocked a shot. The Wolves’ 18 turnovers were twice the number committed by South O’Brien.
This marked the 300th win for head coach Kiley Yates at South O’Brien.
