South O’Brien boys tame the Tigers to go 2-0
South O’Brien shot nearly 50 percent against Trinity Christian while holding the Tigers to a total of 26 points. That was a recipe for victory and the Wolverines did indeed get the better of Trinity on the scoreboard by the count of 69-26. Once again, South O’Brien was humming from the get-go and led the Tigers 21-8 after one quarter. The non-conference win December 6 at Paullina boosted South O’Brien’s record to 2-0 on the young season.
The Wolverines were successful on 26 of their 53 shot attempts to finish at 49 percent. The team brought its shooting eye to the free throw line, making 10 of 11 tries. From three-point land South O’Brien was 5-of-22.
The Wolverine defense came away with 17 steals. Primary thieves were Derek Paulsen with five thefts and Gabe Moermond and Austin Negus with three apiece. In addition, Brody Van Beek blocked a shot.
Paulsen was also atop the scoring column, finishing with 21 points. Jaden Kreber was next with 14 points. Van Beek added 10 points, Brady Riedemann eight, Moermond six, Caden Wittrock and Alex Griebel three apiece and Reese Lundquist and Brett Evans two each. Moermond distributed the ball to the tune of six assists.
Rebounding was very much a team effort. Kreber and Riedemann each pulled down five boards. Corralling four rebounds apiece were Moermond, Wittrock and Evans. South O’Brien limited its turnover total to 12 and recorded a 1.25 assist-to-turnover ratio.
