Hinton’s late scores wrap up win over Wolverines
Hinton posted six runs over the final two innings to seal a 9-0 War Eagle Conference baseball victory over South O’Brien June 10 at Paullina. The Blackhawks, who had scored three times in the third inning, tallied twice in the sixth and then added four more runs in the seventh.
Wolverine pitching allowed only five hits but walked 11 batters and hit one. Starting pitcher Ben Woodall went five innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits, four walks and a hit batter. He struck out three. Mitchell Enger pitched the sixth inning, allowing a pair of unearned runs while striking out two batters and walking one. Gabe Moermond came on in the seventh and worked a third of an inning that included four runs (two earned) on three walks and a hit. Ryan Fuller tossed a scoreless remainder of the inning, walking three batters and striking out two. South O’Brien had just one error.
The Wolverine offense consisted of one single each from Damian Villarreal and Enger. Brett Evans drew a walk while Fuller reached base on an error. Brady Riedemann and Willie Conley were each hit by a pitch.
