The South O’Brien boys track and field team raised the curtain on their 2025 season by taking third at the Alta-Aurelia Early Bird meet March 27 at Alta. Brennan Billick won both the 110 meter and 400 meter hurdle events to help the Wolverines total 124 points. Gehlen Catholic won the meet with a 159 total while Manson Northwest Webster was second at 138.
The Wolverines’ Landen Davenport captured the 3200 meters. South O’Brien also got first-place finishes from the 4×100 relay of Damian Villarreal, Caden Wittrock, Brody Van Beek and Derek Paulsen and 4×200 relay of Brett Evans, Wittrock, Van Beek and Paulsen.
Placing second were Evans in the 200 and Gabe Moermond in the 400. Relays earning runner-up spots were the distance medley unit of Wittrock, Van Beek, Jaden Kreber and Trayton Cobb and shuttle hurdle foursome of Paulsen, Evans, Brooks Billick and Tyler Hintz. Third place went to Villarreal in the 100 meters and to the 4×400 relay of Paulsen, Moermond, Van Beek and Kreber as well as the sprint medley of Asa Flinders, Kreber, Billick and Moermond.
