Wolverines come up just short against HMS boys


In a game that was close throughout the fourth quarter, South O’Brien had two shots at the basket in the final seconds but neither one dropped and the Wolverines were left with a 47-45 loss at the hands of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. This game between War Eagle Conference opponents, contested January 21 at Hartley, did not count in the conference standings.
South O’Brien was just 3-of-18 from three-point range and 8-of-15 at the foul line. The Wolverines shot 35 percent overall with 17 field goals in 49 attempts. HMS hit nine three-point baskets as part of its 17-of-42 shooting (41 percent). The Hawks were 4-of-8 from the foul line.
The leading scorers for South O’Brien were Jaden Kreber with 16 points and Caden Wittrock with 13. Gabe Moermond added five points, Brett Evans four and Brody Van Beek three. Brady Riedemann and Reese Lundquist each scored two points. Kreber had four assists and Moermond two.
Everyone had a part the Wolvernines totaling 28 rebounds. Kreber and Lundquist each registered five boards, Wittrock, Riedemann and Van Beek collected four apiece and Moermond and Evans each grabbed three. Kreber came away with four steals. The Hawks turned the ball over 10 times and South O’Brien was guilty of seven turnovers.
