Spencer Hospital is now accepting applications for the Bennie B. and Ernestine F. Shine Scholarship, the Adam J. Anderson Scholarship, and the Cornwall Loan Program. These programs aim to support students from the region pursuing careers in healthcare.
The Bennie B. and Ernestine F. Shine Scholarship provides annual awards to individuals who have completed at least one semester in nursing or allied health programs. Eligible fields include radiology, respiratory care, speech therapy, physical and occupational therapy, medical technology, laboratory tech, paramedic training, and pharmacy. This scholarship does not support students pursuing degrees in medicine, dentistry, physician assistant studies, or veterinary science.
Ben Shine served as a trustee for the Spencer Hospital Board, while his wife, Ernestine, was an active member and past president of the hospital auxiliary. Together, the Shines established this scholarship to promote quality healthcare in the community.
The Adam J. Anderson scholarship supports individuals training to become certified EMS providers, from EMT to Paramedic. Created by Duane Anderson of Webb and Marcia Anderson Taylor of Spencer in memory of their son, Adam, this scholarship honors Adam’s passion for serving others through emergency medical services.
Adam was an EMT for Spencer Hospital and a volunteer with the Terril ambulance crew. Before his untimely passing in 2001, Adam aspired to become a paramedic. This scholarship enables others to achieve the dream Adam held so dear.
The Ruth Cornwall Loan Program provides low-interest loans to individuals pursuing healthcare education. Established by Wilson Cornwall in memory of his wife, Ruth, the program reflects the Cornwall family’s gratitude for the exceptional care Ruth received from Spencer Hospital during her illness.
The application deadline for the Bennie B. and Ernestine F. Shine Scholarship, Adam J. Anderson Scholarship and Ruth Cornwall Loan Program is March 31, 2025.
