Orabs slip past South O’Brien girls
In a defensive struggle, South O’Brien had a little more trouble finding the basket than did Sheldon. The hosts from the Siouxland Conference used that edge to beat South O’Brien 42-37 December 7 at Sheldon. With the loss, the Wolverines dipped to 1-3 on the season.
The Orabs shot 32 percent from the field with 16 baskets in 50 attempts. South O’Brien was 10-of-41 from the floor to shoot 24 percent. Each team put up 19 three point tries. Sheldon made four of them and the Wolverines two. The visitors stayed close by hitting 15 of 22 free throw attempts while Sheldon was 6-of-17 at the line.
Lindsey Einck and Reese Farquhar each tallied 12 points for South O’Brien. Chloe Hustedt added four points and Addison Hedberg three. Scoring two points apiece were Abby Nelson, BreLee Rasmussen and Abby Woodall. Hedberg notched three assists.
Each team turned the ball over 19 times. Nelson recorded three steals. The Wolverines lost the battle of the boards 35-24. Einck pulled down eight rebounds and Farquhar and Hustedt each collected five.
