Legion Auxiliary Hosts Veterans’ Appreciation Open House

The American Legion Auxiliary of Paullina is proud to host an open house to honor the veterans’ of the Paullina area on Saturday November 9 from 4:00 – 7:00pm at the Legion Building on Highway 10 east of Paullina. The open house, sponsored by the Paullina Legion Auxiliary is providing the opportunity for the general public to express their gratitude to veterans, learn how to support veterans and their causes and to share a meal. A soup and dessert meal will be served and a free will donation is requested.
Collections of mementos on permanent display at the Legion building can be viewed. Honor Flight Medical Director, Chris Van Beek and Terry Cullison, who has accompanied veterans on many trips will be on hand to share information about the Honor Flight. Veterans who have enjoyed the Honor Flight will also be available to share their experiences of their trip. They are Darwin Dau, Denny Koehlmoos, Curt Anderson and Brad Harms.
Steve Rupert, Sone of American Veterans member and avid collector, will be on hand to show and tell about his military collection, and give homage to the service given by his own father.
The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary are member organizations providing support to veterans and members of the general public. Activities of the Paullina Legion are the annual Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day (November 11) services; sponsoring a Boys’ State individual; make medical equipment from the “Loan Closet” available when anyone is in need. The medical equipment is available at no charge, but donations are accepted. Paullina’s Legion Auxiliary provides Zion-St. John 4th grade students with an American Flat at the Veterans’ Day ceremony; provides Christmas gifts to military and veterans’ families; sponsors Girls’ State attendance, donations to the Veterans’ Hospitals at Sioux Falls and Des Moines for homeless veterans and poppies projects. The Legion Auxiliary does apply for grants to assist with their many community directed projects.
