Pink Out Night At South O’Brien Volleyball Game

South O’Brien Caps (center for Advanced Professional Studies) with the South O’Brien Volleyball held Pink Out Night on Thursday, October 10. A variety of activities were planned for the evening. There was a grilled hamburgers or hot dogs with chips and water meal, baked goods, kiss a pig or pie in the face. The volleyball players got the community involved with community work where the public placed silent bids for pairs to help fulfill work obligations.
The 7-12th grade raised almost $600 in a “5 min to win it” collect all your change activity on Wednesday during homeroom. The results of the kiss a pig and pie in the face event after the Pink Out Night Volleyball game had Coach Yates kissing a pig and Principal Phillips taking a pie in the face by Jayven Miller. The free will donation meal brought in a nice amount of donations. A total of a little over $4800 was raised.
All of the proceeds went to Dawn Wulf’s family to help with medical expenses she incurred while battling cancer.
Area businesses that participated in the Pink Out Night event were Friedrichsen Meat Company (Sutherland), Bob & Scott’s (Primghar), Main Market and Hometown Variety of Sutherland, Hyvee of Cherokee and Fareway of Cherokee, Dollar General of Paullina, I29 Sports and many others.
Amy Schmidt, CAPS instructor had this to say about the event “Thank you to Friedrichsen Meat Co., Bob & Scott’s Grocery, Main Market Hometown Variety, Dollar General, I29 Sports, Hyvee of Cherokee and Fareway of Cherokee for all donating to this event. Thanks to all of the parents of volleyball players, local businesses and community members who donated baked items or silent auction items to raise an additional huge chuck of money. Lastly, thanks to all who donated to buying our volleyball players, including myself, to help around the house, yard, or just to play games with their kids as this brought again, an incredible amount of money. All in all, we were able to donate ALL of our proceeds to help Dawn Wulf’s family in paying down some of her medical expenses that she incurred while battling cancer. I personally did not know Dawn, but she’s the grandma to one of my players and a beloved friend to many within our communities. I guess what I’m trying to say is that we picked a great gal/family to help out!! I’m so proud of this event! Go Wolverines!”
