Wolverines earn win over West Sioux

By Coach Heather Struve
The South O’Brien girls swept West Sioux this season with the 8-1 win on Monday, July 1.
The Wolverines jumped out in front the first inning with two runs, with Abby Nelson and Brooklyn Edwards each having hits. In the second inning South O’Brien got three singles from Lindsey Einck, Nelson and Tawni Wulf to push another run across and make the score 3-0. Neither team scored in the third or fourth innings.
In the fifth with one out Jinger Nieuwenhuis scorched a solo home run. Reese Farquhar also had a single and scored later in the inning to go up 5-0. The Wolverines would add three more runs in the sixth to make it 8-0. They did that off of a single from Wulf, a double from Edwards and a pair of walks. The Falcons scored their lone run in the seventh to make the final score 8-1.
Edwards threw a great game for South O’Brien, recording just the one unearned run, walking two and striking out four. In the first meeting with West Sioux she gave up nine hits, so to give up just four when they had already seen her was great. Brooklyn has come a long way since the beginning of the season and is giving our team a chance every time we go out.
South O’Brien put nine hits of their own in the stat book, along with four walks. Nieuwenhuis hit the solo, had two RBI’s and her courtesy runner, Kelsee Warnke, scored three runs. Edwards hit a double and a single and had three RBI’s. Nelson hit a pair of singles, scored a run and had an RBI. Wulf also hit two base hits and scored a run. Farquhar had a single and a run.
