Falcons pile up runs twice to dump South O’Brien
West Sioux had two big innings that carried them past South O’Brien 13-6 July 1 at Paullina. The Falcons enjoyed a four-run second inning and a seven-run fourth.
The Wolverines scored in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Their run in the third made it a 4-2 contest. In the sixth, West Sioux scored one run and the Wolverines two. That was repeated in the seventh inning.
Damian Villarreal went 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Ben Woodall had a hit, walked three times and scored three runs. Ryan Fuller singled and walked twice, scoring a run and driving one in. Gabe Moermond walked, reached on an error and had a pair of RBI’s. Mitchell Enger and Jaden Kreber each had a hit and Kreber scored a run.
South O’Brien was successful on all five steal attempts. Moermond swiped two bases while Villarreal, Woodall and Fuller each had one steal.
The Wolverines committed 12 errors on the night and six of the West Sioux runs were unearned. Starting pitcher Woodall tossed three-plus innings, giving up seven runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and four hit batters. Fuller’s three innings of work included five runs (four earned), four hits, five strikeouts, three walks and two hit batters. Willie Conley pitched an inning, allowing an earned run on two hits. He recorded one strikeout.
