Wolverine golfers post their best team scores in losses to MMCRU

The South O’Brien Wolverines faced a competitive matchup with the MMCRU Royals at Primghar Golf Course on Monday, April 12. To start the meet, golfers had to battle gusty winds once again. However, the winds eventually died down, making it a perfect night for golf.
The girls carded their best team score of the season but came up short by just five strokes. MMCRU took the dual 227-233. Sophomore Lindsey Einck led the Wolverines with a 51, earning medalist honors by four strokes. Lindsey tied her season best and has earned a medal in all seven duals this season. Sophomore Chloe Hustedt shot a 56, which was a season-best for her. Chloe tied for 3rd but took the 4th place medal after a card playoff. Junior Shayli Johnson, who is new to golf this season, shot a personal best 61. She continues to improve, especially around and on the greens. With only four girls on the team, they have to battle every night to play well and put together a competitive team score. I am proud of their effort and ability to be resilient, especially for their level of experience.
Team Scores: MMCRU 227, South O’Brien 233.
Medalist: Lindsey Einck (SO’) 51, Runner-up: Aly Olson (MMCRU) 55, 3rd: Jadyn Young (MMCRU) 56, 4th: Chloe Hustedt (SO’) 56.
Other SO’ scores: Shayli Johnson, 61, 7th (tie); Raegan Plagge, 65, 10th.
The boys shot their best team score of the season tonight, 169. That’s 12 strokes better than their season best. Even so, MMCRU won the dual by two strokes. Although it was a tough loss, the Wolverines are starting to gain some confidence and play with consistency. Junior Derek Paulsen led the Wolverines with a season-best 39. It put him in a playoff for medalist honors with Brayden Olson from MMCRU. In a playoff on hole #1, Derek’s birdie wasn’t enough to beat Brayden’s eagle. Sophomore Alex Griebel carded a season-best 42, earning the 4th place medal. Senior David Bottjen and junior Carter Halverson rounded out the Wolverine cards with 44s, which put them in a tie for 6th place.
