Obituary • Marjorie Irene Cooper
Marjorie Irene Cooper was born at home on December 9, 1931. Her parents, Jesse and Iva Miller, farmed in the northwest corner of Iowa with their five children. Marjorie graduated from a small country high school and then went to nurses training in Sioux City, Iowa where she graduated in 1952 as an RN. During training she was introduced to a classmate’s brother whom she married in 1953.
Donald and Marjorie lived in several communities in Iowa but home was Paullina. They had two children, Larry and Susan. Eventually, they moved to Nebraska and later to Texas.
Marge’s nursing career spanned over 50 years and included several hospitals, plus a few doctor’s offices after she “technically” retired and early on she was even a school nurse. She specialized in OBGYN and was on the forefront of the natural childbirth movement and taught Lamaze in the evenings. Her claim to fame was that she delivered two of Willie Nelson’s children. Marge thoroughly enjoyed working and helping people in her care although she could be a bit stubborn thus, her nickname, Marge the Sarge.
After her husband retired, they moved to Highland Haven near Marble Falls, Texas to spend more time on the lake. While she never really enjoyed fishing she loved being on the water, boating and skiing. She was active in the Highland Lakes Methodist Church, Sharing Harvest and her neighborhood community association. In fact they honored her with a bench in Dove Park for her service to Highland Haven.
If she wasn’t helping others, she was baking cookies or traveling to visit her grandchildren in California, Australia and Canada. She and Don spent their last years in Cedar Park, Texas where he died in 2015.
Marjorie passed away after a valiant effort to recover from a broken hip and shoulder on November 24, 2021. Left to remember her are her son, Larry and wife Barbie Cooper of California, her daughter Susan and husband Michael Parker of Alberta Canada, four grandchildren; Hamil Cooper, Chasen Cooper, Eric Parker and Norton Parker, one great grandchild, Layna Cooper, plus her youngest sister, Donna Rath, several nieces, nephews, her friends and coworkers.
Marge always loved a picnic and we hope she finally has a picture perfect one with Don where the wind is only enough for comfort, that there are no ants or wasps bothering them and that the sun is shining on their faces while they hold hands.
A memorial service will be held at Beck Funeral Home 1700 E. Whitestone Blvd
Cedar Park, Texas on December 15th at 10am. The service will also be livestreamed at: https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1638484919151629
