Information, Misinformation and Disinformation
By Mari Radtke
In*for*ma*tion – Facts provided or learned about something or someone.
Mis*in*for*ma*tion – false or inaccurate information getting the facts wrong.
Dis*in*for*ma*tion – false information which is deliberately intended to mislead, intentionally misstating the facts.
It is information to tell a student 2+2=4.
It is misinformation to say the play will be performed Monday December 10 when it will actually be performed Monday December 11.
It is disinformation to say the city (of Paullina) has an interim treasurer when that interim treasurer has never been notified of the appointment, sworn in to qualify for office or ever been requested to perform any of the duties of the office.
