One stroke is the difference as Wolverine girls lose to Unity Christian

The South O’Brien Wolverines Girls Golf Team faced Unity Christian in a conference dual on May 2, at Rolling Hills Country Club at Hull. Although the rain held off, the “feels-like” temps in the 30s and the cold wind made it another brutal night of golf. While the boys played Unity and Trinity, the girls only faced Unity since Trinity did not field a girls team this year.
In the girls’ dual, the Wolverines lost to the Knights by only one stroke, 222-221. Medalist for the meet was Unity’s Lauren Vande Griend with a 51. Junior Samantha Wilbur from SO’ was runner-up with a 52, and junior Whitney Einck took 3rd with a 53. Wilbur and Einck are great leaders for the Wolverines and are capable of being on the leader board at the WEC Meet.
Sophomore Jinger Nieuwenhuis and freshman Addison Brueggeman, both new to the team this year, rounded out the cards for the Wolverines with a 59 and 60. Their scores are vital to our team score as we saw tonight in the close one with Unity. We will need everyone to play well at the conference meet to make a statement. Sophomore Chloe Gergen finished with a 76 for the Wolverines. I am proud of the girls for continually battling night after night in the elements, but it hurts to lose by one.
