Emmetsburg moves past Wolverine girls
South O’Brien hung with Emmetsburg for a quarter but the E-Hawks steadily pulled away to record a 46-23 win January 12 at Emmetsburg. The Wolverines trailed just 11-10 with eight minutes in the books but their scoring couldn’t keep up with that of their hosts from the Twin Lakes Conference.
Taja Conley drained three long-range shots to finish with a team-high nine points. Marissa Ebel added four points and Alyssa Van Beek three. Scoring two points apiece were Tatiana Conley, Regan Draper and Samantha Wilbur. Abby Nelson added a free throw for one point. The seven assists came from Takara Conley (four), Van Beek (two) and Ebel (one).
South O’Brien was 9-of-23 from the floor (39 percent) and 2-of-7 from the free throw line. The E-Hawks were successful on 13 of 40 field goal tries for 33 percent. They attempted 26 free throws, making 18.
Van Beek and Tatiana Conley each pulled down five rebounds and Wilbur collected three. Nelson came away with four steals. Emmetsburg turned the ball over 11 times while the Wolverines were guilty of 39 turnovers.
