O’Brien County 4-H Graduating Members Reflect
Outgoing senior 4-H members reflect on their years in the local 4-H program
PRIMGHAR, Iowa – O’Brien County is home to ten graduating senior 4-H members. As they graduate and enter their post high school endeavors, these graduates reflect upon what 4-H is all about.
Seniors took a minute to reflect on a beloved memory or share advice for younger 4-H members as they round out their time in O’Brien County 4-H.
Jackson Albert – “My favorite 4-H activity is showing cattle at the fair.”
Sam Daniels – “My favorite 4-H memory is showing cattle at the O’Brien County Fair. Through 4-H, I enjoy the learning opportunities, and my advice to younger 4-H members is to be involved and take the opportunities 4-H provides for you.”
Madisen Fischer – “My favorite [4-H] things are the shows and sand volleyball tournament. My favorite memory is winning grand champion in horsemanship, and my advice to younger 4-Hers is to be active right away and try everything.”
Grace Fuhrman – “My favorite [county fair] memory was after the races last year when a few of my friends and I had a water balloon fight in the wash racks.”
Makenzie Meyer – “My advice to younger kids is to be involved with your 4-H club. Take part in club activities and make new friends from different schools.”
Willa Sickelka – “My favorite part of 4-H is showing cattle at the fair and the leadership opportunities it has given me. It is a great environment to learn and try new things.”
Luke Tapper – “My favorite part of 4-H is [county] fair week. I love showing, going to the figure 8 races, water fights with friends and eating a malt or two every day from the malt stand. Some advice I have to younger 4-Hers is to try new things and just have fun with the experience. You should always try showmanship, even if you are a beginner showman, that is how you learn. Try as many new projects as you can and if you don’t like it you don’t have to do them again. If you have the chance to show at the State Fair, you should!”
Harlie Tesch – Quote unavailable.
Brenton Thomas – “My favorite memories from 4-H are the water wars that happen at the end of fair at the wash rack. My advice to younger 4-H members is to try new projects and reach outside of your comfort zone.”
Sydney Zeutenhorst – “Showing cattle has created many unique memories throughout my 4-H career. My best memory would be representing O’Brien County as the princess. It was an honor and privilege that I will cherish for many years.”
It is evident that the memories made, fun had, and lessons learned in 4-H will remain with these graduates for years to come.
