50 years ago – 1972
Retrieve stolen sale items – At Marvin Sump’s sale last Saturday evening, several articles were removed from the premises without the proper arrangements for payment. Value of the items was $178.50. Investigation by the O’Brien County Sheriffs Deputy Lyle Schaffer and Sutherland Chief of Police Bill Burns showed that Kenneth Rosewell, 20, of Calumet had purchased the items. Rosewell Was assisted in the removal of the items by Samuel Handy, 18 and Glen Handy, 16, also of Calumet. M r. Sump signed an information at J. P. Scothorn’s court charging Kenneth Rosewell with larceny. A warrant was issued.
GRADUATION RECEPTION FOR THE HEIMENSEN TWINS – Tuesday evening, following commencement, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hetaiensen entertained relatives an d friends at a reception honoring their twin daughters, Jean and Jane. Lunch was served from a buffet table featuring a large decorated cake, and carrying out the class colors of royal and princess blue, in all the table compliments.
To observe silver wedding anniversary – Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bruns will observe their silver wedding anniversary with an open house on June 4 at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Amelia, from 2 to 5 p.m. All friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend.
40 years ago – 1982
Pool opening delayed by rain – Pool opening, tentatively set for May 30, has been delayed due to rain. The inclement weather has made it impossible to get the pool bottom painted. Cleanup work inside the bathhouse has been progressing well, but parts needed for the filtering system have not arrived, The first sunny day that comes along, the shallow bottom half will be painted, after which the pool will be filled-that takes 2 days. The pool will open as soon as possible thereafter.
First pastor – Russell Redeker, who started the American Reformed Church in Primghar and was the first pastor, will be preaching at the American Reformed Church Sunday morning, June 6 at 9:30 a.m.
Dave Sickelka wins awards – Westmar College announced the winners of several awards at the annual Senior Recognition Day held recently in the Physical Education Center. Dave Sickelka of Primghar was among the’ students named, to Alpha Chi, a national honor society established to recognize outstanding scholarship. He was also recognized in “Who’s Who In American Colleges and Universities for 1981-82 Academic Year.” Sickelka was also among the students who completed at least 21 semester hours at Westmar with a GPA of 3.40. Dave also received the American Bible Society Award, given to the student who exhibits the greatest growth in the area of Biblical studies.
Vacation Bible School – The Church of Christ, Primghar, will hold their daily Vacation Bible School June 1-5, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Visitors are welcome. Paula Chapman from Blair, Ne. will be director of the Bible School.

County Auditor: Barbara Kreibaum (R). County Sheriff: Michael Anderson (R). County Board of Supervisors 1st District: Rudolf Riessen (R). County Board of Supervisors 2nd District: Dan Struve, Jr. (R). County Board of Supervisors 3rd District: Ronald Drenkow (R), Robert Den Hartog (R). The polls will open at all voting precincts at 7 a.m. and will close at 9 p.m.

Morrison named pastor of UCP – Iowa United Bishop Rueben P. Job has announced his intention to appoint the Rev. W. Donovan Morrison as pastor of the United Church of Primghar. effective July 1. He will succeed the Revs. John and Sheryl Hendrickson, who have been pastors of the combined United Methodist United Church of Christ church.
