Six-run second propels Orabs past South O’Brien
Sheldon scored six runs in the second inning to overcome an early deficit and pave the way for a 9-4 win over South O’Brien June 27 at Paullina.
The Wolverines had taken an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. South O’Brien tallied a run in the third to trail 6-3 but the Orabs added three more runs in the sixth. The Wolverines got their final run in the bottom of the sixth.
Alex Griebel got the pitching start and went five plus innings. He gave up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits with six walks, three strikeouts and a hit batter. Jaden Kreber relieved him in the sixth. His two innings included two earned runs on no hits but four walks. He struck out one batter. There were three South O’Brien errors.
The first three batters in order did most of the damage for South O’Brien. Damian Villarreal recorded two of the team’s four hits and scored two of their four runs. Ben Woodall, singled and scored in the sixth, walked and drove in the third-inning run on a groundout. Mitchell Enger hit a two-run homer with Villarreal scoring ahead of him. Ryan Fuller got in the act as well, getting an RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the sixth.
