It’s a win and a narrow loss for Wolverines at Westwood Tourney
South O’Brien opened with a win and then lost a close one in action at the Westwood Softball Tournament June 28 at Sloan. The Wolverines defeated the host Rebels 5-1 but saw Lawton-Bronson rally for a 6-5 win. At tourney’s end South O’Brien stood at 9-12 on the season.
The Wolverines scored early to take the lead against Westwood. “We had a big second inning with three runs scored,” noted South O’Brien head coach Heather Struve. “Tawni Wulf and Reese Farquhar had hits in that inning. Farquhar had a leadoff single in the fourth to score another run and go up 4-0. Alli Griebel went the distance and gave up eight hits, but scattered them around enough to allow just one run. Our defense was fantastic with no errors for the entire game!”
Griebel struck out three batters and hit one but allowed no walks. Farquhar scored two runs while Ashlynn Gunnerson, Abby Woodall, Lindsey Einck and Addison Hedberg each had an RBI.

After scoring three runs to take the lead the Eagles were able to hold off South O’Brien. “We lead 4-3 after three innings of play, but they had a big fifth inning to go up 6-4,” said Struve. “We got one back in the fifth and had the potential to score at least the tying run in the sixth, but couldn’t push across a run. It was a fun game that could have gone either way. We just ended up on the short end of things.”
Nelson and Woodall each notched a single and a double. Griebel and Farquhar also doubled in the game. Both Woodall and BreLee Rasmussen drove in a pair of runs. Wulf and Griebel each tossed three innings, allowing three earned runs apiece. Wulf yielded three hits, walked four and struck out one. Griebel recorded two strikeouts and a walk to go along with four hits.
