Uneva M. Berntson Sanborn, Iowa

Funeral services for Uneva M. Berntson, age 102, of Sanborn, formerly of Paullina who passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn. Her funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Paullina with Rev. Dr. Verlyn Boone, officiating.
Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina.
Visitation will be held after the graveside service during fellowship at the church on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Uneva M. (Holck) Berntson was born on October 311, 1922, in the farm home northwest of Paullina to John and Alvina (Peters) Holck. She was the sixth of seven children. She was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church as an infant and became a member of that same church in her early teens. She attended country school through the eighth grade and had many fond memories of that time. She graduated from Paullina High School in 1940. She then attended beauticians’ school in Sioux City and became a licensed beautician.
She was united in marriage to Curtiss Berntson on March 29, 1941, and they made their new home on a farm northeast of Paullina. To this union four children were born: Sandra, David, Gene, and Eric. She was a longtime, active member of the Presbyterian Women’s Society and served as an officer for many years. She was also a member of the local book club. She and her husband were part of a couples 500 club for over 40 years and were charter members of a Good Sam camping club in northwest Iowa. She and Curt were married for nearly 79 years before his passing in March of 2020. She loved the farm, watching the birds, growing flowers, baking, going camping, ballroom dancing and traveling. She had a garden and did much canning and freezing for over 70 years. They moved off the farm and into Paullina in 1996.
Left to mourn her loss are her three sons, David of Paullina, Gene and his wife, Jane of West Des Moines, Iowa and Eric and his wife, Amy of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren, Mark, Brian, Michael, Alec, Megan, Sara, Emily, Bob, and Jerry; great grandchildren, Amanda Kate, and Justin; one sister-in-law, Donna Holck; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtiss, her daughter, Sandra, her parents, three brothers, Leroy, John and Donald and three sisters, Elva Cole, Florence Osthus and Sylvia Fiddelke.
