Sheldon/South O’Brien collected two wins and absorbed one loss at a boys wrestling quad held December 17 at Sergeant Bluff. The Orabs defeated Denison-Schlegwig 65-18 and slipped past Cherokee 42-40. In between they suffered their only loss of the day, 58-21 to host Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
The uppermost weights excelled for Sheldon/South O’Brien as 215-pounder Landon Sietstra and heavyweight Jack Leng went undefeated on the evening. Leng pinned all three of his opponents, finishing off Denison-Schlegwig’s Aidan Eggeling in 1:01, the host Warriors’ Mario Rangel in 1:07 and Cherokee’s Cole Comstock (no time available).
Sietstra won by fall over the Monarchs’ Richard Cruz-Nieto in 2:53 and Cherokee’s Sean Comstock in 3:56. He won a 7-2 decision over Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Ayden Dather.
South O’Brien wrestlers competing were Brayden Stines at 106 pounds, Dominic Rounds at 120, Roman Harms at 126 and Marshal Warnke at 150. Harms pinned Denison-Schleswig’s Aden Esquerra in 3:36 and Cherokee’s Gabe Bustos in 1:28. He lost by fall to the Warriors’ Ayden Larrabee in 3:33. Rounds won by fall over the Monarchs’ Abdiel Corona in 1:23 but was pinned by Sergeant-Bluff Luton’s Drake Howard in 1:24 and by the Braves’ Kaden Nee in 3:59.
Stines won twice by forfeit but lost by fall to the Warriors’ Josh Gray in 4:00. Warnke suffered losses by fall against all three of his opponents: Denison-Schlegwig’s Andy Alvarenga in 3:40, the Warriors’ Ayden McRoberts in :46 and Cherokee’s Angel Ponce in 3:51. Grapplers who each earned two wins on the evening were Roman Harms at 126 pounds, Josh Hoffmann at 132, Anthony Escobar at 144, Mitchel Fischer at 165, Kolt Roos at 175 and Jack Leng at heavyweight. Harms, a South O’Brien wrestler, pinned Sioux Center’s Lucas Cuperus in 1:25 and the Nighthawks’ Samuel Quevedo in 5:03.
Two other South O’Brien competitors did not fare as well. At 120 pounds, Dominic Rounds dropped an 8-0 major decision to the Warriors’ Landon Bauer and lost to Samuel Quevedo of BH/RV by a 17-2 technical fall in 5:03.
