Wolverine girls’ season tips off with road loss to Alta-Aurelia
A fourth-quarter comeback was not to be as Alta-Aurelia held off South O’Brien 75-66 November 26 at Alta in the season opener for both teams.
South O’Brien led 17-14 after one quarter but the Warriors outscored the visitors by eight points in each of the next two periods to lead 60-47 after three. The Wolverines won the fourth quarter 19-15 to lose by nine.
Lindsey Einck led South O’Brien with 22 points. Reese Farquhar scored 14 points, Addison Hedberg 11, Cassidy Horstmann eight, Abby Nelson and Chloe Hustedt four apiece and Abby Woodall three. Twenty-one of the Wolverines’ 25 field goals were preceded by an assist. Leaders in that category were Nelson with seven assists and Farquhar and Woodall each with four.
South O’Brien made 46 percent of its 55 field goal attempts. The Wolverines were 10-of-21 from three point range and 6-of-7 at the free throw line. Alta-Aurelia shot 60 percent from the floor with 30 buckets in 50 tries. The Warriors made two of their eight trey attempts and 13 of 20 free throws. Peyton Kies led the home team with 26 points.
The Wolverines were outrebounded 32-20. Hustedt grabbed eight rebounds and Einck pulled down four. The turnover totals showed South O’Brien with 22 and the Warriors with 19. Nelson came away with five steals and Einck executed three thefts.
