Eight members from the South O’Brien FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Leadership Conference and Expo held in Indianapolis, Indiana. South O’Brien traveled by charter bus with other chapters from northwest Iowa which included: Unity, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, and Hinton. The group left very early in the morning on Tuesday, Oct. 22nd and returned very early again in the morning on Oct. 26th.
Abby Woodall stated “My favorite part of the trip was touring the Subaru Plant. It was very interesting to see how the cars are produced. I also learned many things about how a chapter should function at meetings. I will continue to use that information in our chapter.”
The chapters toured the Subaru Auto Plant, Wyffels Seed Plant in Atkinson, IL, and the Crone Sawmill in Indiana, experienced the opening ceremonies with keynote speaker Kevin Wanzer, explored the National FFA Career Show and Expo, and enjoyed the Three Hills FFA Command Performance Rodeo.
John Puhrman said “The trip to Indianapolis was very educational. We got the opportunity to visit with many different colleges and explored many career options. We learned many things about how to be a good leader. I will use those leadership skills to better our chapter.”
Kate Dau added “The National Convention was one of the best experiences for me. We got to talk with an FFA Chapter from South Carolina and it was very interesting to hear what they had to say. It was very eye opening to see all the different parts of agriculture outside of just farming.”
