Wolverine pair run to All-Conference honors at WEC meet

Two South O’Brien cross country runners have raced their way to all-conference recognition. Freshman Landen Davenport and sophomore Trayton Cobb were among the top 15 finishers in the boys varsity run October 17 as Marcus Golf Club hosted the War Eagle Conference Cross Country Meet.
Davenport was third in the race. Cobb finished just over four seconds ahead of Akron-Westfield’s Dexter Briggs to claim the 15th, and last, medal and all-conference spot. Davenport’s performance put him on the first team and Cobb takes third team honors.
Following those two across the finish line were sophomore Corbin Warnke, who placed 22nd, seniors Bensen Rohwer, Ethan Schwarz and Caleb Buenger, who placed 29th, 39th and 48th respectively, and junior Asa Flinders, who finished 51st. Bode Bailey ran at the JV level and was fifth.
The boys placed fourth as a team with a score of 100. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn defended it team title, scoring 57 points.
Competing in the girls varsity run were seniors Hailei Wallinga and Tricia Kilts. Wallinga finished 24th and Kilts 25th. Hinton also repeated as the girls winner. The Blackhawks posted a score of 33 to win by two points over George-Little Rock/Central Lyon.
