Luxembourg Heritage Society of Northwest Iowa
The Luxembourg Heritage Society of Northwest Iowa is seeking descendents of Luxembourg immigrants who came to this area from the commune of Redingen, Luxembourg, especially from the villages of Nagem, Ospern, Niederpallen, and Lannen.
Some family names connected with the region may be Lamberto, Treinen, Schroeder, Retchling, Loutsch, and Detel, according to old stories in the Remsen Bell that listed home areas of Luxembourgers in the news.
Marc Zimer, who is spearheading the student exchange between Remsen St. Mary’s High School and the high school in Redingen commune, suggests that the city of Remsen and Luxembourg villages in the Redingen area might enjoy cooperating and communicating.
Anyone who might trace their ancestry to these areas is welcome to stop at the Luxembourg Heritage booth in the RSM gym Oktoberfest afternoon, Oct. 26, or to contact a member of the Luxembourg Heritage Society. The booth will also have information about the St. Mary’s-Luxembourg student exchange.
