The lone competition for the South O’Brien cross country runners last week was Sioux Central’s Chris Smith Invitational. The event was held at Little Sioux Golf & Country Club in Sioux Rapids.
The Wolverine boys totaled 334 points to finish 13th. The winning team was Spirit Lake with a 58 total. Landen Davenport was again the first to cross the finish line for South O’Brien. The freshman is getting closer to a sub-20 minute clocking, as he ran the course in 20:00.38 to finish 47th. Senior Bensen Rohwer was next in 65th and sophomore Trayton Cobb placed 67th. Then came a pair of seniors as Ethan Schwarz finished 74th and Caleb Buenger 81st. Sophomore Corbin Warnke placed 86th and senior Bode Bailey 89th.
South O’Brien had only one runner in the girls varsity race. Senior Tricia Kilts placed 51st. Sioux Central and Ridge View each finished with 46 team points. The host Rebels took first place because their sixth-place runner had a better finish than her Ridge View counterpart.
