Obituary – LaVonne A. Benson

LaVonne A. Benson Calumet, Iowa

LaVonne A. Benson, age 91, of Cherokee, Iowa and formerly of Calumet, Iowa passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Careage Hills in Cherokee. Her funeral service will be 3 P.M. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet.
 Burial will be at Liberty Township in Calumet.
 There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are under the care of the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.
LAVONNE A. BENSON
LaVonne A. E. Benson, the daughter of Hartwig and Lydia (Whitholder) Jurgensen was born on September 13, 1932, in Primghar, Iowa. She attended Calumet school. On October 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Bertil Benson at the Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. After their marriage the couple was involved in farming in the Brunsville, Iowa area and later south of Paullina until later moving to Calumet. In 1976, Bertil owned and operated Benson Trucking until his retirement in 1985. She entered Careage Hills in 2021, where she passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, reaching the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 29 days.
She was baptized on October 23, 1932, and later confirmed on March 30, 1947, at Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet.
Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
LaVonne is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bertil in 1995, twin sister, Lola Marie; brothers, Vernelle and Shirley Jurgensen, and Burleigh Jurgensen. She is also preceded by brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul Benson and Elizabeth Hartle.
