Kiley Yates Takes On President’s Duties


Kiley Yates, South O’Brien varsity boys basketball coach for the past 18 years, begins a two-year term as President of the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association. The term will be for the 24-25 and 25-26 school years. As president, he serves as the voting member for the IBCA on the IHSAA boy’s basketball advisory committee and the all-sports advisory board. This position follows two years as president-elect to the organization.
He will attend the National High School Basketball Coaches Association meeting in Nashville, TN from July 9-11 along with Executive Secretary-Elect Tom Betz from Heelan and Jeff Schertz from Ballard, the Iowa and national mentoring program director.
According the Yates, the National High School Basketball Coaches Association will discuss the status of high school basketball in their state. Coaches from thirty five states will represent high school basketball at the meeting. Issues to be discussed include the supply of coaching personnel including women coaching boys and minority coaches, mentoring, and attention to rules that may need to be addressed.
