More efficient Wolverines top HMS

South O’Brien capitalized on enough of its numerous scoring chances and kept Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn from doing likewise. The result was an 8-5 victory for the Wolverines June 24 at Hartley.
The visitors had eight hits and drew six walks. They also had two batters reach on errors and one who was hit by a pitch. HMS batters managed 11 hits and also walked six times.
Each team posted two runs in the first inning. South O’Brien came back with three runs in the second. The Hawks chipped away, scoring a run in the fourth and another in the sixth. Both teams finished with a run in the seventh.
Trevor Fiddelke earned the pitching win and also knocked in two runs in the three-run second inning. In his five innings on the mound he yielded 10 hits and four runs, three of them earned. Fiddelke struck out five batters and walked two.
Ryan Fuller pitched an inning of relief, walking two batters. Mitchell Enger closed out the win. He allowed an earned run on one hit with two walks and a strikeout. South O’Brien committed two errors.
Damian Villarreal was a home run short of hitting for the cycle. He also reached base on an error and scored four runs to go along with an RBI. Gabe Moermond was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in. Brady Riedemann walked twice and picked up a pair of RBI’s. Jaden Kreber was 2-for-4 with a double and he scored two runs. Ben Woodall walked, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs.
