Letter to the Editor: The Heart of My Hometown; Primghar, Iowa
Dear Editor,
Growing up in Primghar, I experienced the warmth, discipline, caring, and our people tending to one another first hand. As flooding has hit the region recently, I was more than grateful to receive and observe neighbor’s banding together to support one another without hesitation. Our towns willingness to assist each other in these times of need truly shines during this time of crisis.
What continues to stand out for me is our shared sense of humor, we embrace our hard working and friendly demeanor, easing the present challenges we all are facing currently in Northwest Iowa and South Central Minnesota. This self-deprecating humor and strong will seems to keep our spirits high and bonds strong.
In our small town, kindness isn’t just a virtue; it’s a way of life. Here, we’re more than just residents; we’re a family that supports each other through thick and thin.
I would particularly like to extend a grateful heart felt “thank you” to Buck and Sue Smith, for their helping hand and genuine continuous concern. Fire Chief, Cory Crouch (who I taught swimming lessons to at the Primghar Pool back in the day), for his professional skill, helping hands, and perfect timing with necessary removal of household items to attack the high level of water in Mom’s home, to this degree, for the first time in 54 years. Jeff and ZoeAnn Roberts, who were literally driving by, stopped without hesitation, and provided genuinely appreciated kind words, conversation, and helpful hearts with hands.
As I continue through a fairly typical life cycle, my continued growing gratitude and thankfulness to be raised, educated, work, and experience small town life, was and continues to be a true blessing.
Primghar Pride.
South O’Brien Strong.
Respectfully Submitted,
