Construction work on M12 Set To Begin

by Mari Radtke
Croell Construction of New Hampton, Iowa was the successful bidder to complete the county line road, 100th Avenue from B24 (at Moneta) to Highway 18 on O’Brien County’s side and M12 from Highway 10 at Sutherland north to Highway 18 at Hartley. The 130-day contract began April 1. According to communications from Croell to affected landowners, “road closed” barricades on 100th Avenue will be set up May 20. Milling will begin May 22.
Once work on 100th Avenue is complete construction activity will move to Sutherland. The work calls for 1 inch of milling and surveying from Highway 10 to the southern edge of Hartley. Travel on milled surface will be allowed.
Travel will be restricted while concrete is being laid in any particular location. During that time travel in a small, motorized vehicle such as an ATV, UTV or golf cart on the shoulder to the next cross road. Vehicles will be allowed to park on the side roads while concrete is laid and curing in front of any residence. Rock ramps at driveways will be built for accessibility.
The work through Hartley will completely dig out the roadbed to replace utility lines under the road. Full depth concrete will replace the surface.
County Road M12 is expected to be complete by the end of August. This is funded in part by federal highway funds.
