M12 Improvements Coming Summer 2024
by Mari Radtke
Two separate highway projects are combined into a single contract for O’Brien County Engineer’s office for the 2024 construction season. One part of the bid, won by Croell, Inc of Denison, Iowa, is a 3-mile section on the O’Brien County side. The section runs from B40 near Moneta north to Highway 18. This completes a joint county line road project for Clay and O’Brien Counties.
The other part of the bid is to reconstruct County Road M12 from Highway 10 north to Highway 18. A seven mile stretch from Highway 18 to B40 (heading to Primghar) is covered under federal highway funds. The remainder of the costs are paid from County Secondary Roads funds and from Hartley and Sutherland.
A preconstruction meeting is set for Thursday May 2 at 10:00 am at the O’Brien County Court house. This meeting will set the construction schedule. The contract gives Croell, Inc. 100 working days from the start of work to complete. An unofficial anticipated completion date currently is October 1 with construction to begin on M12 perhaps in July. The construction company is expected to meet with landowners in the construction area once the construction schedule has been set.
M12 construction is anticipated to begin at Highway 10 and work north, however that won’t be certain until after the preconstruction meeting in May.
