Obituaries – Janice Gayle Gentry Cox

Janice Gayle Gentry Cox

Janice Gayle Gentry Cox was born June 5, 1938 to Howard Gentry and Francis Robinson Gentry in Trenton, MO. Jan attended school in Chariton, IA and graduated in 1956.
Jan married Raymond Dean Kent on June 3, 1956. From the marriage were born two children, James Dean and Theresa Louise. After the passing of Raymond in 1961, Jan attended nursing school in Des Moines, IA, graduating in 1964. She began her nursing career at Chariton Hospital. From there she went over to the VA hospital in Knoxville, IA. While working there, she met Walt Amos. They were married in 1966. To this marriage, Kenneth Dwayne was born in 1966.
Janice furthered her career in nursing at DMACC, graduating as an RN in 1974. Jan married John Cox and moved to Sutherland, IA. After John’s passing in 1999, Jan remained in Sutherland where she was very active in her church and community. She enjoyed golfing, reading, and bible study with her fellow church ladies.
Jan is survived he her sister Shirley Winkle and brother David (Bridgett) Gentry. Also survived by her children James (Leighann) Kent, Theresa (Leonard) Murray, Kenneth (Rhiannon) Amos. Also step-children, Penny Lundell, Randy Cox, Dave Cox, 5 grandchildren, Stephanie, Benjamen, Brach, Brianna, Dylan. Also 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Frances, 3 husbands, Dean, Walt and John, one step-son, Bill Cox and one granddaughter, Kayla. Along with many great friends, community members and relatives.
