Jay Edward Ewoldt

Jay Edward Ewoldt, 74, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on October 26, 2023, in the arms of his beloved Diane, after a battle with cancer. He was born on March 3, 1949 to Maxine (Weaver) and Edwin Ewoldt in Primghar. Iowa. Jay grew up in Paullina and graduated from the University of Iowa with Bachelor Degrees in Journalism and Spanish. He worked as a sports writer and later sports editor for Omaha World Herald and the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He retired on Spider Lake, outside Traverse City.
Jay is survived by his life partner, Diane Bassett; his mother, Maxine; sister, Rita (Dave) Lovejoy; brother, Art (Mary) Ewoldt; daughter, Andrea Skinner; nieces Stacey (Brent) Meininger and Alicia (Nate) Penner; nephews Jeremy (Lisa) Capps and Richard Lovejoy; granddaughters Abigail Skinner and Rebecca Skinner; great-granddaughter, Harper Silveus; great nieces and nephews; cousins and many friends!
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, Edwin, and his brother, Michael.
Jay will be laid to rest at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa. A family remembrance will be held at the interment at a later date.
Jay will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. Remember him with a smile. In his memory, gifts may be given to Hospice of Michigan or American Cancer Society.
