South O’Brien can’t keep up with #3 RSM

On June 2 at Remsen, South O’Brien lost 15-4 to Remsen St. Mary’s, the third-ranked team in Class 1A.
The Wolverines started off great with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning when Karlee Warnke was hit by a pitch, Payton Farquhar drew a walk and Maddie Johnson drove them both in on a double. But then RSM scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. The tough part was that seven of them were unearned due to a couple of Wolverine errors.
The Wolverines did come back and score two more runs in the top of the second inning to make it 8-4, but the Hawks would go on to score two in the third and five in the fourth to end the game 15-4. On the bright side of things RSM had not given up more than one run to anyone, so to put up four runs against them was great to see. The Wolverine defense committed seven errors and that just cannot happen if we hope to be competitive and be in games.
Shay Hatting took the loss on the rubber. She only pitched 2/3 of an inning, but our defense was not helping her out. She gave up three hits, eight runs (one earned), and walked five. Brooklyn Edwards pitched most of the game and gave up six hits, seven runs (one earned), walked one and struck out one. Johnson and Warnke each hit a double and that was it for hits. Warnke also scored twice and had an RBI. Johnson had the two RBI’s.
