Sweep of Harris-Lake Park gives Wolverines first WEC win

South O’Brien collected its first War Eagle Conference win of the season with a 3-0 sweep over Harris-Lake Park. The scores of the match, played September 15 at Lake Park, were 26-24, 25-20 and 25-11. The Wolverines had dropped their previous three conference matches.
South O’Brien was coming off a 3-0 loss at the hands of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. The Wolverines needed to tidy up their play against the Wolves and that they did. “Some big things I saw us improve on since our meeting with HMS is taking care of the ball on serve receive and cleaning up our unforced errors,” noted South O’Brien head coach Cortney Roskamp. “Our hitting efficiency wasn’t as high as I would like to see in a match, however, the girls were mixing up their shots and taking more controlled attempts. We also did phenomenal serving and wracked up a lot of aces on the night. It was a great night and progress in the right direction for us.”
The Wolverines served over 90 percent (68 of 74) and totaled 27 aces. Brooklyn Edwards was 15-of-15 and Karlee Warnke 14-of-14. Both served five aces. Tatiana Conley and Maddie Johnson contributed seven ace serves apiece.
Ebel delivered ten kills and Conley seven. Whitney Einck recorded 19 set assists. The defensive effort included 10 digs from Jinger Nieuwenhuis and a solo block by Brooklyn Edwards.
