Margaret Ebel celebrates her 90th with the 3rd and 4th grade class at Zion-St. John.

Margaret Ebel is a lifelong resident of the Paullina area. She grew up on a farm along Highway 143 and attended Germantown School and later Paullina.
On Monday May 23 she celebrated her birthday with the 3rd & 4th grade class of Mrs. (Terry) Paulsen at Zion-St. John Lutheran School in Paullina. As tradition dictates the birthday person brings the treats. She brought the class favorite – Red Velvet cupcakes!
Margaret volunteers every school day (without ice) in the classroom for about an hour. According to Mrs. Paulsen,
Grandma Margaret helps students who may have been absent or need just a little extra help mostly with Math or Spelling. She works with small groups or 1-on-1 in a nearby room when that works better. Currently, all 3rd and 4th grade students at ZSJ performed at or above proficiency in standardized tests.
The class sang “Happy Birthday” when Grandma Margaret arrived and took time for a keepsake picture. Each student had made a card and presented it to her. They asked questions about her childhood, her family, hobbies. When asked what she did when she was a kid she replied, “Annie-Ann2ie-Over.” After describing how the game was played one student remarked, “That sounds like fun!”
Margaret Ebel turns 90 on May 28.
