School reorganization petition set – Tom Whorley, attorney for South O’Brien Schools, was present at the joint board meeting in Paullina Monday night. He presented the proposed petition for reorganization. Whorley explained that the petition must include: (1) A legal description of all of the area to be included within the proposed school district. (2) The name of the proposed school district; (3) The number of directors to be included on the board of the new district; (4) The method for the election of new directors; and (5) The boundaries of the proposed director districts. In the case of the Paullina, Sutherland and Primghar school districts, the reorganized district will be % named the “South O’Brien Community School District.” The board of education will be comprised of seven directors. The district will be divided into six director districts. The seventh director will be elected at large. All of the directors will be elected by a vote of the electors of the entire school district.
FINE ARTS BANQUET The Fine Arts Banquet will be held Saturday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Paullina west gym. The banquet will honor the students involved in the fine arts areas of vocal and instrumental music, visual arts, speech and drama. A pot luck meal will kick off the evening. Cold drink and coffee will be provided. Please bring a salad or dessert and your own table setting.
K-4 SPRING CONCERT The Paullina K-4 students under the direction of Mrs. Donna Kramer will be doing selections from the 50s and 60s at the Annul Spring Concert Monday, May 4. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the west gym.

Amateur Artist Show At Paullina Library – The 1982 Traveling Amateur Iowa Artists’ Show is now on display at the town library It will b e in Paullina until May 14 when it will move to the Farmer’s Bank in Spencer Every year the show travels the state with works of artists from eleven areas of Iowa. In this year’s show are two works done by local artists, Elizabeth Mille r and Emma Henderson There is also a painting done by Linda Sheeley of Sac City, who is the 85 yea r old grandmother of Sheila Billick The show is open to the public without charge It can be seen during regular library hours.
Twice Weekly Garbage Pickup Begins Monday Twice a week garbage service for Paullina residents will begin on Monday. May 3 Garbage will the be picked up each Monday and Thursday in Paullina in the residential are a instead of just on Thursday as ha s been don e during the winter months. Business places receive twice a week garbage service throughout the year and they are charged a higher rate for the twice a week service.
Sweepstake Offers Winners Pounds Of Gold Paullina Building Center announced plans today to participate in the spring “Olympic Goldbrush Sweepstakes, ” a national promotion in which Olympic plans to give away ove r 3 1/4 pounds of gold and thousand s of other prizes. The first prize winner in the sweepstake s will receive two pounds of gold. Olympic will offer two second prize winners one-half pound gold each and give a quarter pound of gold to each of three third prize winners. One hundred fourth prize winners will receive gold-filled Cross pens and 2000 fifth prize winners will be given gold-quality paint brushes. Julius Bilyeu of Paullina Building Center said the nationwide promotion began April 19 and will conclude May 1.
