Board Approves director district plans for reorganization plan – The Primghar School Board unanimously approved a plan calling for six director districts and one at large district for the proposed South O’Brien School District at their regular April 13 meeting. It was learned later in the evening that the Paullina School Board also approved the same plan at their meeting that night. The Sutherland Board will vote on the plan at their regular meeting scheduled for April 20
Primghar Care Center Hoping To Expand – With 51% of the Primghar population over age 65 it’s no wonder that the town’s only nursing home feels a need to expand. Hopefully, according to Primghar Care Center Administrator Jim Streufert, that will be as early as this summer. Before expansion can. happen, however, the care center must convince a state.-Certificate of Need Council that it is needed. “At the present time the Primghar Care Center (located north on Highway 59) is 9,900 square feet and can serve 40 residents. Owners Jim and Path Rogers of Spirit Lake want to expand the facilities by adding a 20 bed wing, and increasing the kitchen, family gathering area, and dining room space. The addition would add another 12,360 square feet to the care center.

EASTER EGG HUNT SAT. – A belated Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, April 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the city park. Sponsored by the Primghar Jaycees, the hunt will be divided into the following age divisions: preschool; K through 1st; and 2nd through 4th.
PWC initiates “Vial of Life” project – The “Vial of Life”, a program to aid emergency medical personnel in the event of a life-threatening situation in the home or on the highway, is now being initiated in Primghar, through the efforts of the Primghar Woman’s Club. Fifteen members will canvass the town distributing kits that contain all the essential material to protect residents
To replace section of TV cable – Primghar Municipal Cable TV subscribers worried about the poor quality pictures on the lower number channels can rest assured that the picture will be getting better. It has been discovered that over 2,000 feet of underground cable between Primghar and Sanborn is defective. Replacement of the cable will be done by the contractor, starting this week. After the cable replacement, all channels will be fine tuned
OPEN HOUSE FOR BUFF DAVIS – The County Extension Council will host an open house for Buff Davis Sunday, April 18, 2-4 p.m. at the Farm Bureau building. Buff will retire May 1 after serving 34 years as extension office assistant.
50 years ago – 1972
Begin field work on County Soil Survey – Field work was started April 5 in Floyd Township on a soil survey that will cover the entire ‘county. Three Soil Conservation Service soil scientists, Wayne Cankert, Larry Hanson, and Harvey Harmon, equipped with soil probes and aerial photos are going over every farm mapping the soils. They identify the soil by soil type, percent of slope, and depth of topsoil. The data is recorded on aerial photos. They generally don’t take any soil samples off the farm, they merely identify what they find when they probe the soil to a depth of 46 inches. The team of three men plan to complete the field work for- the entire county in four years. Those farms that have been previously mapped will be remapped using a new updated soil legend. When the survey is completed, it will be published in a book form. They will be made available to the public.
Benefit supper Monday April 17 – The Washington Raiders are having a Benefit Pancake Supper on Monday, April 17 at the Farm Bureau Building in Primghar. Serving is from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Money is used for citizenship shortcourse to Washingon D.C. this summer.
