Sheldon/South O’Brien sends three wrestlers to State Tourney

Sheldon/South O’Brien has qualified three wrestlers for State based on results from the Class 2A District Wrestling Tournament held February 12 at Sioux Center. Grapplers needed to finish either first or second at Districts to move on to the State Tournament which is being held February 17-19 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Orabs Cason Johannes at 145 and Jarrett Roos at 170 each finished first and will return to Des Moines. Josh Hoffmann placed second at 106 pounds and will also be making the trip. Carter Wohlert at 220 pounds and Coy DeBoer at 132 just missed qualifying as each placed third. Wohlert is the only one of the five participants Saturday who is from the South O’Brien school district.
The Class 2A wrestlers take the mat for Session 1 at the State Meet. That Session is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

In the second tiebreaker period, Roos started down and earned one point for an escape. Starting up in the next period, Roos was able to maintain control over DeLeon for the entire 30 seconds to earn the hard-fought 4-3 victory. Roos, a sophomore, takes a 41-4 record to State.
Hoffmann pinned OA-BCIG’s Myles Beck in their semifinal match but lost by fall in the 1st Place Match. When Beck won his third place match it meant the Sheldon/South O’Brien freshman would be moving on to State with a record of 29-14.

DeBoer dropped his semifinal round match 9-3 to Noah Parmelee of Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The Orab junior was on the right side of an 8-0 decision in the 3rd Place Match. He did not get the opportunity to wrestle back as Parmelee was the loser of the 1st Place Match. DeBoer ends the season at 35-10.
