The tournament trail continues for a quintet of Sheldon/South O’Brien wrestlers following competition at the Class 2A Sectional Wrestling Tournament held February 5 at Spirit Lake. First and second place wrestlers move on to the District Tournament to be held February 12 at Sioux Center beginning at 11:00 a.m. Finishing first for Sheldon/South O’Brien were Josh Hoffman at 106 pounds, Cason Johannes at 145 and Jarrett Roos at 170. Second-place finishers were Coy DeBoer at 132 pounds and Carter Wohlert at 220.
The Orabs wound up fourth in the team results, scoring 157 points. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley was the team champion with 222 points, edging out West Lyon which finished with a 215 total.
Hoffman, Johannes and Roos took the same route to first place. Each of the three won their opening match by fall and followed that up with wins by decision in the 1st Place matches.
DeBoer scored a major decision win but then lost by fall in the 1st Place Match. Since he had already defeated the winner of the consolation match no wrestleback was required.
Wohlert recorded a pin in his initial bout which put him in the 1st Place Match. There he suffered a loss by fall. Once again, no wrestleback was needed.
Seven other Sheldon/South O’Brien grapplers also competed at the Sectional Tourney. Finishing fourth were Jordon Jenness at 160 pounds, Keaton Sampson at 195, Kaedon Louscher at 285 and Ethan Jager at 126. Eddie Millan placed fifth at 152 as did Zach Brinkman at 182. Tyson Getting was the sixth-place finisher at 138.
