Blackhawks use big second quarter to fly past Wolverine girls
South O’Brien saw its game with Hinton slip away in the second quarter when the Wolverines were outscored by 18 points. The Blackhawks went on to defeat South O’Brien 71-33 February 3 at Hinton. Winter weather on December 10 caused this game to be rescheduled. The loss dropped the Wolverines to 2-7 in the War Eagle Conference and to 3-17 on the season.
Riley Draper hit three shots from beyond the arc to score nine points. Alyssa Van Beek tallied six points. Taja Conley and Abby Schreck accounted for the other two three-point baskets and each finished with five points. Tatiana Conley added four points while Takara Conley and Marissa Ebel each scored two. Draper also led in assists with two. Notching one assist each were Taja Conley, Takara Conley and Tatiana Conley.
Hinton was 22-of-47 from the floor for 47 percent. The Blackhawks drained eight treys.
The visitors shot 38 percent from the field with 13 baskets in 41 attempts. The Blackhawks took advantage of the free throw line where they were 19-of-24 compared to 2-of-4 for South O’Brien.
The 20 Wolverine rebounds included five from Draper, four from Takara Conley and three from Van Beek. Taja Conley came away with three steals and Schreck stole the ball twice. Hinton turned the ball over 17 times, two fewer than Wolverines.
