BID FOR OUTDOOR PLAYGROUND SET FOR SALE
South O’Brien School is accepting sealed bids for a large playground set. 
It is located at 216 S. Rutledge St. Paullina, IA 51046.
Requirements to dismantle and remove the playground set from the site include:
The area must be fenced off around the worksite until the playground is completely removed. 
The dismantling of this structure will require maintaining a safe and secure environment at all times.
The entire structure must be removed by June 30, 2024.
Project work is only allowed after 4:00 P.M. on weekdays, weekends and summer.

Board Vice President John Beck called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.
B. Roll Call and Declaration of Quorum
All members were present with the exception of Board President Gina Paulsen.  Quorum established.

  1. Budget Hearing – 2024-2025
    Board Vice President John Beck declared the public hearing required per Iowa Code 24.9 open at 6:01 PM.

Board Secretary/SBO Aaron Giese gave a brief overview of the District’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget highlighting enrollment, general fund levy, levies outside the general fund, and factors affecting property tax rate.
b. Consider Resolutions

  1. Increased Enrollment
    Motion to levy property tax for the fiscal year 2025, in the amount of $186,768.00 to fund increased Allowable Growth for Increased Enrollment, Open Enrollment Out, and LEP Instruction Beyond 5 Years.

    Motion to levy property tax for the fiscal year 2025 in the amount of $.33/$1,000 to fund the Physical Plant and Equipment. Funds will be spent in accordance with Iowa Code in the areas of physical plant, transportation, and technology.

    a. ELI/SPED Interventions and CPI Update
    Elementary Principal Jean Steen and elementary special education instructors Lisa Hedberg and Alisyn Sheeks highlighted to the board aspects of the Early Language Intervention program, special education interventions, and Crisis Prevention Institute implementation at the elementary.
    b. Directors
    Superintendent Wade Riley presented information to the board from the directors of the district including buildings, transportation, maintenance, nutrition, technology, and activities.
    c. Elementary
    Elementary Principal Jean Steen  presented an update to the board from the elementary including 21st-century skills, positive climate and culture, high performance and growth, facilities, and instructional coach time spent in the elementary.
    d. Secondary
    Secondary Principal Denise Phillips presented an update to the board from the secondary including 21st-century skills, positive climate and culture, high performance and growth, facilities, classroom visits, and instructional coach time spent in the secondary.
    e. Superintendent
    Superintendent Wade Riley updated the board on several issues including the bond project, Fiscal Year 2025 negotiations, ongoing legislation, and upcoming dates to look for.
