Primghar Cobblestone Days Plans Getting Fine-Tuned
by Mari Radtke • The annual event, expanded to four days over the Fathers’ Day Weekend June 13-16, 2024 was the sole topic of a public meeting hosted by the Primghar Chamber Thursday April 10 at the Cobblestone Bar in Primghar.
Several events are tried and true favorites. The Volleyball Tournament held on Thursday at the City Park is returning. The Hospital Auxiliary will hold their tavern luncheon on Friday from 11-1 at the Community Building. Also on Friday is the Jaycees Figure 8 Races.
Saturday is the feature day with the parade, starting at 11am, with food around the square and Parent Advisory Board for Kids Kampus luncheon at the Community Building, inflatables, kiddie train, (if you are interested in driving, contact the Primghar Chamber) a library craft, a “Bags” tourney, and other fun around the square are all returning. The Car Show is not going anywhere. Vintage and other show cars will take over streets on and near the square Saturday morning and afternoon. A burnout contest is back on Saturday, too.
New features being considered and meeting with approval from those attending the meeting are a hot dog topping contest Thursday afternoon/evening. Some details are still being ironed out, but a hot dog dinner of many toppings from 4-6pm enjoys big support. The Street Dance will happen. Most likely that will be held Friday night after the races, but, nailing down the details is still in the works for the event, including securing a food truck.
Chamber officials are busy confirming a Grand Marshall for the parade. Their first choice is a good one, but not ready for announcement yet. The vendor show is up in the air. When and where are sticking points for the shopping event.
Final events being considered are a Saturday night “smoke out” and an evening event such as a cruise night (assuming the dance stays on Friday).
Thanks to the Primghar Firefighters for creating a Sunday side by side ride. Details are still being finalized.
The 2024 Cobblestone Days in Primghar promises to be a busy and entertaining Fathers’ Day weekend. Cross your fingers for good weather!
