Wolverine golf teams sweep West Sioux
by Coach Kris Faust • The South O’Brien Girls and Boys Golf Teams both defeated West Sioux at Hawarden Golf Course in the second meet of the season on Monday, April 8. What started as a pretty decent night for golf turned cold, wet, and windy before the meet was over.
Wolverine sophomore Lindsey Einck shot a 52 to lead the girls and bring home medalist honors. Freshman Raegan Plagge played in the #2 spot tonight for the Wolverines and shot a 57 to take the 3rd place medal.
It was great to get the win tonight. It showed the girls that all of their scores matter in a close meet like this one. SO’ beat West Sioux by only two strokes and showed remarkable improvement from their first meet last week. I am proud of the girls, especially after the weather took a nasty turn halfway through the meet.
Team Scores: South O’Brien 239, West Sioux 241.
Medalist: Lindsey Einck (SO’) 52, Runner-up: Autumn Beach (WS) 56, 3rd: Raegan Plagge (SO’) 57, 4th: Madeline Klocke (WS) 58.
Other SO’ scores: Chloe Hustedt, 62, 6th; Shayli Johnson, 68, 7th.
The boys won by 10 strokes and brought home three of the four medals. Junior Ryan Fuller led the Wolverines with a 44 and took runner-up honors. Senior David Bottjen shot a 45 to take third. He struggled horribly on one hole or he would have carded one of the best rounds of his career. Junior Jace Kleinwolterink took fourth with a 46. We dropped 11 strokes off our team score from last week, so we are moving in the right direction. Alex Griebel led the JV cards with a 45, so he will be back in the varsity line-up for our next meet. We had four golfers turn in scores in the 40s tonight battling the weather. I’m anxious to see what we can do on our home course and when the weather is more conducive to play.
Team Scores: South O’Brien 186, West Sioux 196.
Medalist: Connor Bergsma (WS) 42, Runner up: Ryan Fuller (SO’) 44, 3rd: David Bottjen (SO’) 45, 4th: Jace Kleinwolterink (SO’) 46.
Other SO’ Varsity Scores: Aaron Funkhouser, 51, 6th; Trevor Fiddelke, 54, 9th; Nathan Harms, 56, 11th.
SO’ JV Scores: Alex Griebel 45, Reese Lundquist 59, Teagan Bahrenfuss 60, Bode Bailey 63, Logan Dau 73, Jacob DeBerg 74.
