Pieces of Love

By Mari Radtke
Quilters in the Germantown area gather once each month, the first Thursday morning, to put together quilts. There isn’t really a system. Sometimes one of the talented ladies brings a large block, then another takes it home and adds on. Most often, right now, a quilt top is brought and the Thursday mornings are spent tying it. After the quilt top is secured to the batting and the backing, another takes it home to hem it.
Throughout the year the number of participants varies. Up to six or seven skilled quilters join to put together beautiful handmade quilts. Sometimes, Pastor Carl Stenzel’s children join in. Quilts of varying styles, colors and sizes are created with kindness and love.
The quilts are donated to various charities or personal use or as a fundraiser. Donations are accepted to help defray the cost of supplies.
Everyone is welcome to join! St. John Lutheran Church is located at 5092 480th Street, Germantown.
