Annual South O’Brien Alumni Basketball Game set for Saturday, Feb. 3
Come out and enjoy the 2024 South O’Brien Alumni Basketball Games. The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, at noon in the South O’Brien High School West Gym in Paullina. In addition to the games, a 3-point shooting contest has been added to the event this year with the winner taking home bragging rights and a trophy.
The event provides an opportunity for former players and fans to celebrate South O’Brien’s rich basketball tradition. Proceeds from the event, including player registration fees and fan admissions, will benefit the South O’Brien High School Boys Basketball Program.
Nic Faust (’08), former South O’Brien basketball player and event organizer, said, “We had a great turn out last year, and this year we have 36 players registered already.” Faust added, “It’s a great opportunity for past players and fans to reconnect.”
Alumni players will wear black and white reversible game jerseys, which were made possible by donations from O’Brien County AG Supply, JW’s Bar & Grill, & South O’Brien Insurance.
The public, including kids, community members, former coaches, and alumni, are all invited to attend. General admission is $5 for adults & free for students/kids.
South O’Brien Alumni as well as Paullina, Primghar, Sutherland, Calumet, Germantown, and Gaza alumni were invited to participate. The registration deadline for players was January 19. The $25 per player registration fee provides players with an event T-shirt to commemorate the event and pays referees for the game, in addition to raising funds for the basketball team.
Everyone is invited to gather at JW’s in Paullina at the conclusion of the game. Follow the “South O’Brien Alumni basketball Game” page on Facebook for more information.
